At the Greater Grand Island Community Foundation, we offer a range of giving options to help donors create meaningful impact—both for the present community and for generations to come. Whether you’re interested in scholarship funds, donor-advised funds, field-of-interest funds, designated funds, unrestricted gifts, or planned giving, we are here to help turn your passions into purpose. Regardless of which avenue of giving you choose, an important decision when establishing a fund is whether it will be endowed or non-endowed. Both options have their own special way of making a difference.
An endowed fund is designed to last forever: your initial gift is invested, and a portion of the earnings and interest supports the causes you care about year after year. It’s like planting a tree that continues to give fruit, but the gift must go through the growing season to bear fruit. This allows your impact to grow and support the community forever, but the gift cannot be utilized immediately.
On the other hand, non-endowed funds are gifts that portions of will be available for immediate community benefit--like crates of ready-to-eat fruit that require no waiting for growth or ripening. This allows your gift to address current community needs or short-term goals. While a non-endowed gift may be spent down over time, it continues to make a difference well beyond your initial gift as a valuable investment supporting programs, people, and progress within your present community.
