Tom Babel

Lisa Avila O'ConnorTom Babel is a licensed crop insurance agent and has worked with area farmers since 1981 to guide them in making quality insurance decisions on their growing crops. He also owned and operated an accounting and income tax firm, held an Enrolled Agents License with Internal Revenue Service, and provided the area with income tax preparation services from 1981 to 2005 until the business was sold to what is now Bangs and Stewart, CPA’s, LLC, located in Wood River. In conjunction with the accounting firm, he also held a Series 6 investment license and provided investment services to area investors.

Babel currently serves on the National Board of Directors for The Crop Insurance Professionals Association (CIPA), and is serving in a lead position on the Wood River Pool Committee to implement the design and construction of a new swimming pool for the Wood River community.

Past experiences include the following:

  • Property developer of 3 medical buildings on the Grand Island Hwy 281 and Diers Ave. corridor
  • Built a community center with an indoor basketball/volleyball court for Wood River
  • Served on the Wood River Volunteer Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter, the Wood River Volunteer Rescue Squad as an EMT from 1983 to 2003, and served as the Treasurer for the fire department for 10 years.
  • Served on the Finance Committee for the Wood River First United Methodist Church

Babel earned his education by attending Kearney State College, majoring in business administration with a minor in computer science. He is also a graduate of the Grand Island Leadership Tomorrow-Class #4.
