Scholarship Application and Instructions

Scholarship applications will be available online beginning December 1 of each year. To receive consideration, all applications for the 2019 GICF scholarship cycle must be completed and submitted by midnight on February 18, 2019.

Below you will find information you may find helpful as you begin the application process.

Please note that we ask all students to only create one scholarship account. If you forget your username or password, please contact the Foundation at (308) 381-7767 or send an email to scholarships@gicf.org and ask to have them reset.

Financial Need

NOTE: Financial need is determined by meeting qualifications as defined by one of the following measures:

Option A: Official National School Lunch Program Eligibility Verification Form. You can obtain a copy of this form from your school's administrative offices.

Option B: Completed FAFSA. The FAFSA application period opens on October 1 each year. Please note: the GICF application deadline is FEBRUARY 18, 2019.

Option C: Completed Education Question College Funding Estimator. If you have not completed the FAFSA process by the February 18 deadline, you can access Education Quest's online estimator at https://apps.educationquest.org/estimator/20192020/estimator.htm

Note: Students with an Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) below $10,000 on either the FAFSA or the Estimator qualify as in need of financial assistance for the purposes of the GICF Scholarship process.

You will have an opportunity to upload financial need verification materials as you provide personal information during the actual application process.

Welcome, students!

The 2019 GICF Scholarship application period is now open!

The following items are VERY important; please make sure you understand them as you begin the application process.

*Please make sure to read through the various tutorial links posted above—they will help you complete the application process correctly and efficiently.

**Important note: Once you have completed the eligibility quiz on the front end of the application process, you will be shown the list of GICF scholarships for which you qualify. Fill out the first application (you choose which one), which will include a section from which you can send e-mails to persons who will provide you with the required references/recommendations. WAIT UNTIL YOUR RECOMMENDERS HAVE SUBMITTED THEIR COMPLETED REFERENCES (you will be able to see in your application when those references are submitted to GICF) BEFORE YOU GO ON TO COMPLETE THE OTHER SCHOLARSHP APPLICATIONS ON YOUR LIST. That way, you will be able to easily copy all information from one application to the next WITHOUT sending extra recommendation requests to the nice folks who have agreed to provide you with the first one. You need only submit the required recommendations once. (Please note that a few scholarships may require an additional reference.)

***Applicants who are awarded a scholarship through Grand Island Community Foundation are invited to a Scholarship Tea at Riverside Golf Club (2820 Riverside Dr, Grand Island) at 2:00 p.m. Please set that date aside as an opportunity to be recognized for your achievements and to meet your scholarship donor.

****Applicants who complete and submit their applications by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, will receive 2 (two) percentage points as a bonus when their applications are reviewed. Those who submit complete applications by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2019, will receive 1 (one) bonus percentage point. These points are applied as an incentive for completing your application(s) prior to deadline. In the event that two competing applications are otherwise equal, preference will be given the applicant with the early completion bonus.
