Youth Philanthropy Project

In 2009 Grand Island Community Foundation introduced a youth philanthropy project in partnership with Grand Island Public Schools 21st Century After School Program. Discussion included helping students understand the concept of charity and how to make decisions when we have limited resources. The program explored the issue of philanthropy, and the importance of leadership, communication and teamwork. Each student involved in the program was given $10 to donate to a local charity. Recipient organizations in 2009 included Central Nebraska Humane Society (shown above), Evangelical Free Church’s Mission Program, Grand Island Fire Department, Grand Island Parks and Recreation, Grand Island Police Department (shown below), Habitat For Humanity, Nebraska Children’s Home, Red Cross, Saint France Medical Center, Saint Francis Cancer Treatment Center, The Salvation Army.
