Excellence in Teaching --Nominations Accepted until Friday, October 14th
The Grand Island Community Foundation is currently seeking nominations for the Kim West Dinsdale Award for Excellence in Teaching. The recipient of this award is honored with a $5,000 cash prize. Nominations will be accepted until Friday, October 14, 2016. To nominate a teacher or guidance counselor please visit the Excellence in Teaching tab.
Founded in 2005, this award honors kindergarten through 12th grade teachers and guidance counselors who demonstrate an exceptional love for and quality in teaching in Hall County to include Grand Island, Doniphan, Cairo and Wood River. The winner is chosen from nominations submitted by current and former students, parents of students, colleagues, principals, administrators, family, and friends. Hall County public and private school teachers and guidance counselors are eligible for nomination but teachers/guidance counselors cannot nominate themselves.
“The Kim West Dinsdale Award for Excellence in Teaching is an outstanding opportunity for those on the front lines of education to be given the recognition they deserve for the lives they touch,” says Melissa DeLaet, Grand Island Community Foundation CEO. “Nearly everyone can look back on their lives and remember a teacher who has inspired them; this award gives students and families an opportunity to honor to that person who has influenced and inspired their lives.”
When asked why this award is significant to our community, Kim West Dinsdale expressed a sincere appreciation and respect for how teachers and guidance counselors shape our future. “Teachers do more than teach; they inspire students to reach new heights of success. I am so pleased we have an opportunity to honor our teachers through the Grand Island Community Foundation. These teachers are shining examples for children and demonstrate a love for and quality in teaching,” said Kim West Dinsdale.
The Kim West Dinsdale Excellence in Teaching Award is not only a recognition for the awarded teacher or counselor, but to the school and district as a whole. The Grand Island Community Foundation receives nominations from all over Hall County and choosing just one nominee involves a very selective and complex process. Recipients of the Excellence in Teaching Award reflect his or her school district’s commitment to its students, education, community and excellence.
