Abbott Sisters Project Fund

Established 2010

The Grand Island Community Foundation is home of the Abbott Sisters Project Fund, established in 2010. The fund is a project partner of The Quilted Conscience which is a project to help Sudanese-American girls foster creativity, respect, and friendship between immigrant/refugee children and traditional-American communities through special quilting workshops. Nebraska born-and-raised social justice pioneer Grace Abbott will be remembered for her well-known credo: “Justice for all children is the high ideal in a democracy,” and her legacy forever honored by the Abbott Sisters Project Fund at the Grand Island Community Foundation.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Fund

Established 2007

This fund was established for the preservation of programs and ongoing operations of the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programs and to carry out its role and mission as described by its governing documents. 

 

John and Diane Brownell Endowment Fund

Established 2004

This endowed fund was established by donations from John and Diane Brownell, the earnings of which are to be used for Grand Island area hike and bike trail enhancements and scholarships for the First Presbyterian Church preschool or a successor protestant organization.

Central Nebraska Humane Society Fund

Established 2013

This fund was established by Steve and Jill Hornady, Randy and Vicki Gard, and Roger and Susan Bullington to benefit the Central Nebraska Humane Society.

Christmas Cheer Fund

Established 1986

This fund was established by gifts from various sources both endowed and nonendowed, the earnings and expendable gifts of which are to be used to help needy families at Christmas time.

Citizen Advocacy Endowment Fund

Established 1998

This designated fund was established by the Citizen Advocacy Center to benefit the Citizen Advocacy Center facility and programs.

Community Health Charities Fund

Established 2008

This donor-advised fund was established to support Grand Island programs and services that directly impact cancer patients.

Duane D. Curtin Fund

Established 1997

This fund was established by the trust of Duane D. Curtin to be used to enhance and improve the Grand Island city parks.  

Doniphan Community Foundation Endowment Fund

Established 2013

This fund is held on behalf of the Doniphan Community Foundation, and the funds are to be administered by request of the Doniphan Community Foundation in accordance with the fund agreements they have entered. 

Doniphan Community Foundation Operating Fund

This fund was established for the use of the Doniphan Community Foundation to carry out its role and mission as described by its governing documents to improve the Community of Doniphan. 

Doniphan Senior Center Endowment Fund

Established 2013

This fund is held on behalf of the Doniphan Community Foundation, and the funds are to be administered by request of the Doniphan Community Foundation in accordance with the fund agreements they have entered for the Doniphan Senior Center. 

Doniphan Veteran's Memorial Park Fund

Established 2010

This fund is held on behalf of the Doniphan Community Foundation, and the funds are to be administered by request of the Doniphan Community Foundation in accordance with the fund agreements they have entered for the Doniphan Veteran's Memorial Park.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes Endowment Fund

Established 1999

This fund was established to provide support to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes to carry out its role and mission as described by its governing documents.

GICF Nonprofit Excellence Institute Fund

Established 2015

In 2016, the Grand Island Community Foundation launched the Nonprofit Excellence Institute (NEI) – a year-long capacity building program for local nonprofit organizations. This program supports the Grand Island Community Foundation’s mission to support community groups and also respond to the ever changing needs of Grand Island and the surrounding area. Grand Island Youth Activity Fund

Established 2015

The Grand Island Community Foundation is proud to offer scholarships for youth activities. The Grand Island Youth Activity Fund was started to provide scholarships that allow youth in the Grand Island area, regardless of financial resources, to participate in Grand Island activities and programs throughout the year. Scholarships will be provided that enable youth, regardless of financial resources, to participate in activities or programs outside of school sponsored clubs.

Groundwater Festival General Fund

Established 2006

This fund is held on the behalf of the Central Platte Natural Resources District (NRD) established by gifts from the NRD. Disbursements of the funds can only come at the request of the NRD and are for the continued support of the Nebraska Children's Groundwater Festival.

Groundwater Guardian Team Fund

Established 2011

This fund was established by gifts and donations received by the Grand Island Area Groundwater Guardians (GIAGG). Disbursements by the fund can only come at the request of GIAGG and are for the support of IGAGG activities and special programs.

The gROw Fund

Established 2015

This designated fund was established by Brian and Erin Dunagan to provide charitable support for equipment and medical supplies to help with development to improve the quality of life for children with special needs.

When the Dunagan’s daughter Rowan was diagnosed in 2013 with Bilateral Perisylvian Polymicrogyria, a rare brain abnormality, the Dunagans were devastated. Like any good parents, they just wanted to see their daughter grow up, play, run, be happy, and enjoy life to the fullest. As time went on they began to accept the situation that they found themselves in and thanked God for the blessings they have. In turn they wanted to help other children with special needs and decided to establish the gROw fund with the Grand Island Community Foundation in 2015. Since then the gROw fund has grown with the help of many donors wishing to make a difference in the lives of others. 

 

Grow Grand Island Fund

Established 2015

This designated fund was established to provide charitable support to the goals and objectives of the Grow Grand Island Initiative.

Jami Harper Liederkranz Children's Theater Endowment Fund

Established 2006

This endowed fund was established by Jami Harper through the Volvo for Life program, the earnings of which are to be used to support the children’s theater at the Liederkranz in Grand Island.

HEAR Grand Island Fund

Established 2016

This designated fund was established to provide charitable support to the Hear Grand Island Summer Concert Series.

Heartland United Way Endowment Fund

Established 1999

This endowed fund was established by the Heartland United Way to benefit the Heartland United Way facility and programs.

Kim West Dinsdale Excellence in Teaching Fund

Established 2004

This endowed designated fund was established by a grant in honor of Kim West Dinsdale, the earnings of which are to be used to recognize teachers who have rendered outstanding professional services in Hall County, Nebraska.

Krick Family Memorial Fund

Established 2005

This endowed fund was established by Donald E. and C. Labonne Krick, the earnings of which are designated for the Recreations Department programs at Nebraska Veterans’ Home in Grand Island, Nebraska.

 

Leadership Tomorrow Endowment Fund

Established 1998

This endowed fund was established by the Hall County Leadership Unlimited, Inc., to benefit the Leadership Tomorrow program.

Nebraska State Fair Fund

Established 2009

This fund was established to pay for a loan for the relocation of the state fair. Once the loan was repaid in full, the remaining funds became endowed and therefore have been reclassified as such.

Clara M. Paulsen Fund

Established 1988

This fund was established by the will of Clara M. Paulsen to be used for the comfort and pleasure of patients at the Veterans Hospital in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Gene and Ellinor Reab Fund

Established 2006

This fund was established as an endowed fund with expendable income to be used for the Evangelical Free Church and basic needs. In March 2006, the fund agreement was amended at the request of the donors to become an expendable fund with funds to be disbursed to the church and grants for basic needs over the next fifteen (15) years; therefore, the funds have been reclassified as temporarily restricted.  

Hazel G. Rector Fund

Established 2000

This endowed fund was established by the will of Hazel G. Rector, the earnings of which are designated for YMCA memberships. 

The Grand Island Community Foundation is looking for an individual or family that could benefit from a membership to the YMCA, made possible through the Hazel G. Rector Fund.

 

Referrals must be made by a nonprofit organization staff for an individual or family who would benefit from a YMCA membership, but lack the financial resources to purchase a membership on their own.

John W. (Jack), Jr. and Joyce J. Schultz Fund

Established 2005

This gift annuity fund was established by John W. (Jack) and Joyce J. Schultz in which the principal donation will be disbursed to the Schultzes over their remaining lives. When all annuity payments have been made, the remaining funds will be disbursed to the Foundation for its general uses and purposes.

TeamMates Operating Endowment Fund

Established 1999

This endowment fund was established for the preservation of programs and the ongoing operations of the TeamMates Mentoring Program and to carry out its role and mission as described by its governing documents.

Rosemary Werner Fund

Established 2003

This endowed fund was established by Tom and Kim Dinsdale in honor of Rosemary Werner, the earnings of which are to be used for the Hat Tree for cancer patients.

YWCA Endowment Fund

Established 1999

An endowed fund established by the YWCA to benefit the YWCA facility and programs.
