Frequently Asked Questions

Who are the GGICF scholarships for?

Scholarships are available for graduating seniors, current college students, and non-traditional college students.

How do I verify I have a financial need?

If you have a financial need we accept the following forms as verification: FAFSA form, Certified Free/Reduced lunch form from your school district, or Education Question College Funding Estimator at https://apps.educationquest.org/estimator/20192020/estimator.htm.

Do I need reference letters?

You will need two people to be references. You will enter their email addresses so they can complete an online recommendation form. Scholarship applications are not complete until references are submitted.

When do I apply?

Applications open December 1st and close mid-February. You will find the link to the application on our website on December 1st.

How do I know what scholarships I’m eligible for?

We use a common application. As you fill in one application, it fits you with the scholarship opportunities you are eligible to receive. One application process and many scholarship opportunities.

How are the scholarship applications evaluated?

We verify applications meet eligibility criteria and then community volunteers evaluate and score the applications.

How do you know if you have been awarded a scholarship?

You will be sent an email letting you know that you have been selected as a scholarship awardee. We have Scholarship Tea for awardees where the scholarships are announced and students get to meet the scholarship funders.

Where does the scholarship money get sent?

After providing proof of enrollment, the scholarship funds are sent directly to the college or university. The scholarship award is paid in two equal installments for each semester.

What does a GGICF scholarship pay for?

Scholarships awarded by Greater Grand Island Community Foundation are to be applied toward tuition, fees, and books required for course instruction.
